Lotus Notes and Domino
Lotus Notes and Domino version 8 was released in August 2007.
Demonstration of some of the new Lotus Notes features: We are keen advocates of this software, and its ability to deliver massive return on investment for the organisations that use it. In the past, Lotus Notes had quite a mixed reputation. It was (justifiably) criticised for its unusual and over-complex user interface, and for its failure to keep up with the user-friendliness of other email clients, primarily Microsoft Outlook.
Underneath that, though, Lotus Notes is a formidable piece of software engineering, capable of solving real business issues in a fraction of the time and for a fraction of the cost of alternative platforms. Why is this? Lotus Notes is not just an email system, as many people think. Instead, email is merely one of the functions it can perform, others of which include databases, workflow systems, offline disconnected software applications, intranet/internet sites, web sites to securely share information with customers and suppliers, and much more.
Version 8 of Lotus Notes has just been released, and with its new user interface the ugly duckling is ugly no longer. Not only that, but by basing the new version on the Eclipse framework, it now runs equally well on Windows and Linux desktops, with Mac on the cards for the next few months. They've also bundled an all-new set of 'editors' based on the well-known OpenOffice package. So if you're currently paying £300 per user for Microsoft Office Standard, why not join the 120 million users who pay about £100 (give or take) for Lotus Notes which does everything that Office does and more. And it will read and write all your existing Office 2000/2003 files too.
We can integrate Notes with other systems, and can mobilise your applications and databases (whether Notes or otherwise) for the Blackberry smartphone, so that you have secure reliable access to key information wherever you might be.
